Keto Protein Mocha

If high fat coffee won’t quite do it for you, or you find yourself craving one of those sweet coffee drinks after a morning workout, try this keto-friendly mocha. You may be surprised how filling it is, while also satisfying that craving in a more nutritionally-friendly way.

This is an awesome drink to try on a cold morning and we love the fact that its not packed with sugary carbs either.

Its pretty simple to make and calls for quality protein powder of your choice. You can use plain or a flavored one- depends on your preference. The plain protein powder with added cocoa powder is perfectly perfect.

We are a huge fan of Perfect Keto protein powder but its your choice. They have some amazing flavors to choose from as well and could honestly make a new drink for each day of the week with all their flavors. The salted caramel makes for a great keto latte as well.

The powder also contains MCT oil and goes perfectly with coffee which is why is a fan favorite of ours. It also tastes amazing which I can say for all keto protein powders!

Servings 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup high-quality coffee strong (or substitute with 1 shot of espresso)
  • 1 tablespoon butter unsalted
  • 1 tablespoon MCT oil
  • 1 scoop whey protein powder
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk full-fat (preferably warmed or steamed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • dash ground cinnamon
  • hot water

optional

  • whipped cream or whipped coconut milk cream

Instructions

  • In a blender, blend your coffee, butter, oil, whey protein powder, and coconut milk until frothy. If you prefer, you may instead use an immersion blender. If the drink is at first too thick, add a little bit of hot water, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Pour into a warm mug, topping with your dash of cinnamon. If you so desire, add a bit of whipped cream.

Notes

While you can also use coconut oil, we prefer MCT oil, and if possible, recommend grass-fed butter, as this is one of the places where you can taste the difference in quality. As far as add-ins, use what fits your preferred tastes. Some keto practitioners may also choose to add a raw egg yolk for extra protein; use your own preferences as a guide.
Tools Needed:
  • Blender and/or immersion blender
